MOVERS IN BUDA, TX

Good ol’ Buda, Texas. Famous for its one-of-a-kind wiener dog races at the annual Buda Country Fair, and Cabela’s, the ultimate outdoors megastore-museum attraction, Buda is high on the charts for small-town charm and old-fashioned fun. But it’s no one-trick pony city. Just 13 miles southwest of Austin and 60 miles northeast of San Antonio, it’s a hotbed for commuters who want a little space from the hubbub of city life, and it’s one of the fastest-growing suburbs.

OUTDOOR CAPITAL OF TEXAS.

Thanks to its overwhelming acreage of parkland, Buda was named “Outdoor Capital of Texas” by the State of Texas Legislature. You can enjoy its stunning green space yourself in one of the many hike and bike trails, 17 smaller parks, or the sprawling Historic Stagecoach Park. Make sure to bring the camera for the gorgeous mesquite and spindly oak trees, fields of wildflowers, and roaming wildlife. Grill out on the BBQ pits while the kids enjoy the playground of Garlic Creek Park or Whispering Hollow Park. Thrill seekers, check out the Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park, featuring a bowl, two ramps, two half pipes, six grinding rails, and more.

LOVE JALAPENOS?

For some true down-home fun, Buda style, test your limits at the jalapeno eating contest during the Summer Fajita Fiesta, or any of the city’s other seasonal and holiday community events. Spread out a blanket for the whole family and catch a flick under the stars at Buda’s Summer Movies in the Park tradition. For some retail therapy, join friends and family for First Thursday to wander the downtown farmer’s market, antique shops, art studios, and more. While you’re there, check out noteworthy historic Buda sites like the Carrington House, Clint’s Cabin, and the Porter-Gordon House. Grab a bite at local favorite Dan’s Hamburgers or Bill Miller BBQ, and then step back in time for a wiggle-waggle chocolate soda or boot scootin’ smoothie at Buda Drug Store and Soda Fountain.
